Li-ion batteries are playing a critical role in the fields of consumer electronics, hybrid electric vehicles, and distributed energy storage. The reliability of the battery-powered system depends on the estimation of the state of charge (SOC) and remaining useful life (RUL) of the battery being used. Majority of the commercial battery powered applications available today does not monitor the RUL of the battery. Hence, this paper presents a method to estimate the RUL of the Lithium cobalt oxide battery accurately. To validate the proposed RUL estimation method, a mathematical model of a single cell Li-Ion battery with the aging parameters such as charge/discharge rate and operating temperature has been developed in Matlab/Simulink platform. The proposed RUL estimation method is verified by applying the stress factors to the battery such as operating temperature and storage time, and the results are found satisfactory. 2018 IEEE.en_US
